Bahia’s local religious practices have come to have global significance in the past decades. In this talk, Stephen Selka will discuss how government patronage, African American tourism and social activism have revitalized cultural organizations in Bahia, Brazil. 

About the Speaker:

Stephen Selka is the author of Religion and the Politics of Ethnic Identity in Bahia, Brazil (University Press of Florida, 2007). He received his PhD in cultural anthropology from the University at Albany in 2003.  He is currently Assistant Professor at Indiana University.
