Gary Giddins interviews James Kaplan on his new biography Sinatra: The Chairman, the sequel to his 2010 bestseller Frank: The Voice. Kaplan is a novelist and nonfiction writer whose essays, reviews, and profiles have appeared in The New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Esquire, and New York magazine. He coauthored John McEnroe’s autobiography, You Cannot Be Serious, and Dean & Me, with Jerry Lewis. Sinatra needs no introduction; after Kaplan’s remarkable work, he won’t need another biography either, for a good long time.
