Africana Studies Certificate Program Application Form
Doctoral candidates enrolled at The Graduate Center (GC) can complete a certificate in Africana Studies. The primary goal of the certificate in Africana Studies at The Graduate Center is to produce scholars who are fully cognizant of the diverse field of Black Studies.
REQUIREMENTS: 15 Credits.
Students are required to be matriculated in one of the established doctoral programs and must take:
a. One prerequisite course (or its equivalent): Introduction to Africana Studies (3 credits);
b. Two required core courses (or their equivalents): Global Perspectives (3 credits) and Topics in Africana Studies (3 credits); as well as
c. Two electives from any of the courses cross-listed with Africana Studies or approved by the Coordinator of Africana Studies.
Successful completion of a doctoral certificate is listed on the student’s doctoral transcript.
