Lily Quiroa studies violence, memory, and corporate agroextraction in relation to Indigenous political subjectivity in Latin America. Her dissertation focuses on the Caribbean coast in Guatemala, specifically the Q’eqchi’ Maya communities living in and around the port city of Puerto Barrios. She is examining the relationship between contemporary Indigenous women’s political activity and the past/present banana industry, specifically how memories and lingering power systems of the United Fruit Company shape everyday practices and demands in this space. She has a B.A. in anthropology from Wheaton College.
