The Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Research and Training Fellowship in the Educational Sciences (IPoRT Fellowships) program, which is funded by a grant from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), is designed to prepare future leaders in educational science and technology research. IPoRT fellows will learn to apply state-of-the-art knowledge from cognitive science, developmental psychology and the science of learning to understand students’ learning and educational experiences, and to develop and rigorously evaluate new educational products and approaches. The training program will have a focus on (1) the use of technology for developing educational tools, and (2) technology as a tool for conducting educational research.
The IPoRT fellowships are renewable for up to two years. During the first year, fellows will be involved with manuscript preparation using existing datasets. Fellows will also be expected to develop proposals for original research to be conducted in Year 2. Resources at IPoRT affiliated centers will be available to support fellows’ research. In Year 1, Fellows will also develop a personalized professional development plan that can involve auditing specific content courses, attending professional conferences and workshops, etc. To further support their professional development, Fellows will also be expected to attend a weekly advanced statistical consulting seminar and a monthly research colloquium as well as regularly attend research meetings of the faculty mentors.
Fellows will be appointed to the Educational Psychology Program at The Graduate Center, CUNY. Fellows will also have research affiliations with and opportunities to become involved with ongoing research at the Graduate Center’s Center for Advanced Studies in Education (CASE) and New York University’s (NYU) Consortium for Research and Evaluation of Advanced Technologies in Education (CREATE). CASE conducts basic and applied research concerned with improving and upgrading the quality of education. CREATE supports research that advances the cognitive science and learning sciences foundation of the educational use of online learning and other advanced technologies. CREATE also supports the development of computer or web-base instruments for educational research. Other research opportunities are available for scholars at the Center for Research on Culture, Development and Education.
