I was drawn to the Educational Psychology program because of the focus on using rigorous quantitative research methodology to inform and devise programs to ameliorate classroom barriers to student academic success. I am currently involved in research examining the effects of teacher-student race/ethnicity matching, and whether matching is protective for minority students' social and academic outcomes. I am also interested in the mechanisms that influence teachers’ underestimation of students’ academic abilities, and the long-term effects of underestimation on students’ socioemotional and academic achievement. I really enjoy the program’s flexibility in allowing students to construct their own program of study based on students’ interest.
