John Torpey is Professor of Sociology and History at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and (from January 2014) Director of the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies at the Graduate Center. He is the author or editor of eight books: (1995); (2000); (edited with Jane Caplan; Princeton: Princeton UP, 2001); (2004); (2005), (2006); (2012); and, with Christian Joppke, (2013). He is on the editorial board of and the , and edits a series for Temple University Press titled “Politics, History, and Social Change.”
