The music program at the CUNY Graduate Center is one of the premiere doctoral-granting institutions in music studies in the world. It offers degrees in five concentrations: Composition, Ethnomusicology, Musicology, Performance, and Theory/Analysis. If you are interested in applying to the program, feel free to contact the executive officer, Norman Carey, or any of the area heads listed below. We are happy to facilitate campus visits for prospective students.
Throughout the Graduate Center, including the music programs, all students receive tuition remission in the form of a 5-year tuition fellowship. Most Ph.D. and several D.M.A. students will receive a 5-year Graduate Center Fellowship. Additionally, students in certain underrepresented minority populations may apply for a Presidential MAGNET Fellowship.
