Music: Student Honors, Awards, Publications, and Other Activities
Alina Kiryayeva, a virtuosa pianist enrolled as a D.M.A. student in music performance, was guest artist with the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra in March, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K. 491, in two different locations—at the renovated Newburgh Free Academy auditorium and the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center. Kiryayeva has claimed top prizes and honors internationally and has toured her native Ukraine, as well as Russia, Mexico, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Holland, Japan, and the United States. Soyeon Kate Lee, a gifted pianist and a D.M.A. student in music performance, was recognized for the “elegant sparkle” of her performance by Steve Smith of the New York Times in his May 22 review of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s final concert of the season at Alice Tully Hall. Lee’s busy summer schedule includes two Naxos recordings of Scriabin piano works as well as numerous festival appearance throughout the United States and Europe, including Mäntän Musiikkijuhlat Piano Festival, Finland; Kefalonia Music Festival, Greece; the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, NM; Buck Hill–Skytop Music Festival, PA; Music Mountain, CT; and the Island Concert Series, Fisher’s Island, CT.
On September 3, Lee will join her fiancé, the accomplished pianist Ran Dank, in a four-hand concert at Le Poisson Rouge. Dank, too, is a D.M.A. student in music performance at the Graduate Center.
