Philip Yanos is a licensed clinical psychologist and a graduate of St. John's University. A professor in the psychology department at John Jay College, he currently serves as the Director of Clinical Training for the clinical psychology Ph.D. program at John Jay College and the Graduate Center. A nationally recognized researcher on mental health stigma, he is an Associate Editor for the journal Stigma and Health, and the author of “Written Off: Mental Health Stigma and the Loss of Human Potential” (Cambridge University Press, 2018). Yanos is the co-developer of 'Narrative Enhancement and Cognitive Therapy', a group-based treatment which addresses the effects of self-stigma among people with mental illness. In addition to researching the causes and consequences of mental health stigma, he has also studied the effects of PTSD as well as the psychosocial predictors of community participation among people with severe mental illnesses.
