Donna Corrado (GC, 2013) appointed Commissioner of the New York City Department for the Aging. Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “Donna has dedicated her entire career to expanding and improving social services for New York City’s most vulnerable residents,” said the Mayor in announcing her appointment. “She started her career as a program director for older adult services at Catholic Charities, an organization that serves more than 400,000 meals to older adults at senior centers and delivers 570,000 meals to homebound elderly clients. She has spent more than 22 years working at Catholic Charities, helping to expand the services that the organization provides to New York’s neediest and most sensitive communities.”
Jama Shelton (GC, 2013) True Colors Fund co-founder Cyndi Lauper and executive director Gregory Lewis announced the appointment of Jama Shelton as the new director of the fund’s Forty to None Project. Launched in June 2012, the Forty to None Project is the first and only national organization focused solely on bringing an end to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth homelessness. The creation of the project director position is part of the True Colors Fund’s expanded commitment to giving a voice to the nearly forty percent of the 1.6 million homeless youth who identify as gay or transgender—and marks the first position of its kind on the national level.
Nina Aledort (GC, 2013) has been appointed Associate Commissioner for Close to Home Oversight and System Improvement, New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Jenny Mincin (GC, 2013) was appointed Deputy Director of the Women’s Protection and Empowerment Unit of the International Rescue Committee.
Amy Baker (GC, 2014) is joining the College of Health Sciences at the University of Wyoming as an Assistant Professor of Social Work where she will be teaching research and social policy in the MSW program. While in Wyoming, Dr. Baker will be continuing her research on the impact of the recession on female homeowners and social service delivery in working class communities. Her work on mortgage foreclosure will be featured in a forthcoming issue of Social Science and Medicine.
Keren Bachi (GC, 2014) has received a post-doctoral fellowship with the Neuropsychoimaging Imaging of Addiction and Related Conditions Group at the Icahn School of Medicine, Mt. Sinai Hospital.
William Cabin (GC, 2009) was appointed an Assistant Professor at the Temple University School of Social Work.
Martha Garcia (GC, 2014) has been appointed Assistant Professor of Social Work at the College of Arts and Science, Pacific University of Oregon.
Stephanie A. Jacobson (GC, 2014) has been appointed Assistant Professor of Social Work at the Quinnipiac University School of Health Sciences.
