Rafael de la Dehesa’s research has focused largely on sexual and gender politics in Latin America, with a particular concern with how social movements are changing in the context of globalization. He is the author of Queering the Public Sphere in Mexico and Brazil: Sexual Rights Movements in Emerging Democracies and co-editor of Sexuality and Politics: Regional Dialogues from the Global South. His current research focuses on the development public health as a key site for both the regulation of sexuality and reproduction and political contestation of its terms, with particular attention to societal mobilization around population policy, family planning and sexual and reproductive health.
