Are we living in a "Second Gilded Age”? Journalists, scholars, and reformers have increasingly used this phrase to describe the political economy that has emerged over the last 40 years. In this daylong conference, experts in various disciplines weigh the pros and cons of such a comparison. What lessons can we learn about the factors producing inequality in each period? And what are the risks in conflating such different eras? What can we learn about the effectiveness of various "solutions" proposed in each time, and the kinds of coalitions or social movements required to enact them?
