- GC Music Professor and Doctoral Student Honored with Prestigious Awards
A faculty member and a doctoral student from the GC’s Ph.D.-D.M.A. Program in Music were recently bestowed awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, in recognition of their outstanding artistic achievement in composition:
Jason Eckardt (Brooklyn/Graduate Center), a composer whose works have been widely performed at festivals in the U.S. and abroad, was awarded a Charles Ives Fellowship of $15,000;
Polina Nazaykinskaya (at right), a Ph.D. candidate whose “Winter Bells” was performed by the Minnesota Orchestra, received a Charles Ives Scholarship of $7,500, awarded to composition students of great promise.
The American Academy of Arts and Letters is an honor society of 250 architects, composers, artists, and writers. Its mission is to foster and sustain an interest in literature, music, and the fine Arts by identifying and encouraging individual artists.
