Four-Day Workweek – Summer 2020
The current policy regarding the University's summer four-day workweek, as adopted by the Council of Presidents at its meeting of May 2, 1994, offers each CUNY college the choice of operating the traditional five (5) day per week schedule or the extended four (4) day per week schedule (“condensed workweek”) during a designated period in the summer.
The Graduate Center (including Macaulay Honors College, and Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism) will participate in the Four-Day Workweek program for the summer of 2020.
The four-day workweek program shall be in effect during the period of Monday, June 22nd through Friday, August 7th, excluding the workweek that includes Independence Day (observed on Friday, July 3rd). Practices for the workweek including Independence Day shall be the same as in preceding years. Specifically, staff shall have four regular (un-extended) workdays on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of that week.
The six Fridays included are: June 26, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7, 2020. (Independence Day holiday will be observed on Friday July 3, 2020. During that week, staff shall have four regular un-extended workdays on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday).
The extended workday schedule options are as follows, which reflect 8.75 hours for work day and 30 minutes for lunch:
- 8:00 A.M. – 5:15 P.M.
- 8:15 A.M. – 5:30 P.M.
- 8:30 A.M. – 5:45 P.M.
- 8:45 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.
- 9:00 A.M. – 6:15 P.M.
Please be reminded that during the extended summer work schedule the following time entry must be captured according to your job title classification:
Non-Teaching Instructional (ECPs, Classified Managerial, HEOs, CLTs and Librarians)
Please record 8.75 hours for each full day worked during the 4-day workweek. The 8.75 hours should also be reflected for each full day of annual or sick leave usage; Unscheduled Holidays must be charged as 7 hours of unscheduled leave and an additional 1.75 hours of annual leave. If you are following an extended workday schedule, “Friday” rows can remain as a blank on your time and leave records.
Classified Civil Service (White Collar only)
Please record the schedule you are working on your timesheets (Time In/Time Out) to reflect 8.75 hours with 30 minutes for lunch (i.e. 8:00 am to 5:15 pm). Each full day of annual or sick leave usage must be charged as 8.75 hours. Unscheduled Holidays must be charged as 7 hours of unscheduled leave and an additional 1.75 hours of annual leave. If you are following an extended workday schedule, “Friday” rows can remain as a blank on your timesheets.
Employees who elect not to follow the extended workday schedule, have the option of working four (4) regular seven-hour days/regular lunch hour and charging the fifth day to annual leave. Such arrangements should be approved by your immediate supervisor.
