New Students - Fall 2021

Welcome to The Graduate Center!

After considering the unprecedented situation of COVID-19 and the health and safety of all, the decision was made to move the Fall 2021 New Student Orientation online.

Navigating new student orientation

Students should check with their academic programs for instructions on attending program-specific orientations (see list below). International students are also required to complete a MANDATORY international student orientation session via Zoom (see below).

If you have general orientation questions, please contact studentffairs@gc.cuny.edu.

The new student orientation consists of two parts:
1) this webpage containing an introductory video, to-do list, and links to resources; and
2) an asynchronous orientation event on Blackboard (CUNY's LMS) consisting of welcome and informational videos and materials.

The orientation event is available starting August 23.

  • The orientation program videos and additional informational workshops will be available for asynchronous viewing on Blackboard.
  • Discussion boards for new students--a place to connect with your cohort--will also be on Blackboard.

International Students Orientation

International Student Orientation on Zoom with the Office of International Students

During the international student orientation, we will review the F-1 regulations, you will learn how to maintain your F-1 status in the United States, and we will discuss the benefits of your F-1 legal status.  You will also meet the Office of International Students staff and learn all about the resources that are available to you as an international student at the Graduate Center. You will also get a chance to meet other new international students virtually on zoom.

All new international students, including transfer students, will need to attend one of the international student orientations listed below. We are offering two international student orientations on Zoom. Please select one to attend.
