Fashion Studies Student Shows Collection at NY Men's Fashion Week
M.A. student Minn Hur (Fashion Studies) showed his most recent collection at New York Fashion Week: Men’s last week, the first standalone menswear fashion showcase in the city.
Hur (right) is the cofounder, creative director, and designer of HVRMINN, a label described by Portable.tv as seeking to “infuse beauty and intention into our wardrobe, placing a premium on the symmetry of dress and respectability.”
Featured in the show were clothes from the label’s Eponymovs by HVRMINN collection.
“The inspiration is best summarized as the balance between rebellion and discipline,” according to the label. “There were lots of military references, but also many rebellious elements, like the longer suiting jackets that push the boundaries of the zoot suit.”
Hur points to his graduate studies as having a profound influence on his work.
“The classes that I have taken at the Graduate Center have opened my eyes to the way fashion can be approached in an interdisciplinary framework, and how my experience in design creatively interacts with scholarly rigor,” he said.
Among those impressed with Eponvmous was Pulitzer-winning fashion critic Robin Givhan of the Washington Post, who praised Hur’s bold design sense.
“Because sometimes, a guy just needs a mash-up of the decades,” she wrote. “And a camouflage suit.”
