CUNY Data Service

The CUNY Data Service maintains an extensive archive of data sets from the U.S. Census Bureau and other sources and provides customized analysis of these data sets on a fee for service basis for academic researchers, public and nonprofit agencies, community organizations, the media, and business organizations. In addition, it provides specialized services to support the research efforts of the CUNY community.

The Data Service has extensive holdings of the Census related data Standard Tape Files and Public Use Microdata Samples of the 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000 Censuses and the 2005 American Community Survey (ACS) for the New York metropolitan region, as well as such other data sources as the New York City Housing and Vacancy Surveys and the Current Population Survey. It has long experience in analyzing these data sets in both a mainframe and desktop PC environment, has a wide variety of statistical and GIS software available, and can read and write data sets in virtually any medium required. The Data Service and Center also maintain geographic boundary files for most administrative and political units and can map data at a variety of scales.

The Data Service is an affiliate of the New York State Data Center and it is registered with the Census Bureau’s National Clearinghouse for Census Data Services.
