New York City Labor Market Information Service

LMIS is a workforce development and educational opportunity-focused research, evaluation, and consulting organization. Founded in 2008 as a joint venture between the former NYC Workforce Investment Board and The Center for Urban Research, LMIS reaches a wide range of workforce and education stakeholders, locally and throughout the US.

Located within The Center for Urban Research at the CUNY Graduate Center, our team includes expert researchers with a variety of backgrounds and skillsets, from economists to sociologists to political scientists. We support other mission-driven groups by helping them to harness the power of research insights and labor market data and carry out best-practice interventions, with and through engagement of their client communities. We are dedicated to connecting individuals and communities to economic opportunity, particularly those who have historically been excluded from the labor market or are located in the lower part of the income distribution. We partner with nonprofits, government agencies, educational institutions, companies, philanthropies, and other programs that share this goal.

If you would like to work with LMIS on a project or initiative, please contact us at nyclmis@gc.cuny.edu or fill out our partnership inquiry form below.

Industry Reports

Industries support a range of jobs, and the nature of the work can vary by occupation, employer, setting, location, and more. To help people plan for the future, we break it all down and look ahead.

LMI Training

We work with a range of audiences to familiarize them with readily available sources of labor market information. Our trainings help them identify, navigate, and interpret data.

Strategic Consulting and Program Alignment

Beyond this menu of products and services, we offer custom data-driven intelligence, materials, and guidance to policymakers and service-providers in philanthropy, education, and workforce development.

How closely do program offerings match what employers want? We help educators, trainers, agencies and organizations understand their graduates’ labor market prospects and identify ways to better align their programs and policies, by conducting expert and employer interviews and focus groups, and customer needs assessments.
