GC's Affirmative Action Plans (AAP)
The Graduate Center’s (GC) commitment to its mission as an institution of higher education fosters commitment to increasing the representation of protected groups throughout its workforce. The Chief Diversity Officer and the Compliance and Diversity Office collaborate with critical internal and external partners to ensure implementation of the GC’s Federal and Italian American Affirmative Action program, as part of its wider effort to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and non-discrimination on campus.
AAPs identify CUNY policies and procedures that foster an inclusive environment to develop, maintain, and implement The Graduate Center’s Affirmative Action program.
The GC's Federal Affirmative Action Plans (AAP)
The Affirmative Action Plan is prepared by federal contractors as required by federal regulations related to:
- Presidential Executive Order 11246, for women and federally protected racial/ethnic groups
- Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, as amended, for protected Veterans
- Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, for Individuals with Disabilities
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) oversees Affirmative Action Plan requirements for federal contractors. Some aspects of this plan are also informed by New York State and New York City regulations and guidelines for public agencies.

The GC’s Affirmative Action Plans (AAP) for Italian Americans
The GC prepares separate Affirmative Action Plans for Italian Americans, who were designated a protected class by CUNY’s Chancellor in 1976.
