The New Orleans-based ÌFÉ is a project of percussionist, producer, and Santería priest Otura Mun, which merges Afro-Latin percussion and Yoruba prayer with electronic music. Mun’s Orisha religious practice is the lens through which the music is conceptualized, alongside his lifelong study of African diasporic percussion — from collegiate drumlines in the South, to Puerto Rico’s underground hip-hop and indie scene, where he has produced tracks for singers and MCs. His acclaimed album 0000+0000 (2021) began in San Juan and was fully realized in New Orleans. The numbers of the title form a prophetic sign from the Ifá religious practice, heralding the birth of night and a fearless embrace of death.

“Mun’s…batá rhythms meet auto-tuned vocals, and musical folklore meets spiritual worship, creating an otherworldly atmosphere where every drum stroke, synth cue and calling builds and reaches spectacular heights.” — The Washington Post
