The Whys and Hows of the Communicative Latin Classroom
Friday, October 21, 2022
Professor Jacqueline Carlon, University of Massachussetts, Boston
What does it mean to teach communicatively? Why should Latin, a language we generally teach so that our students can read ancient texts, be taught using communicative methodology? How can we transform our pedagogy to align with what we know about how languages are learned? This talk will outline Second Language Acquisition research results that are most pertinent to Latin teachers and will offer a variety of ideas (not one-size-fits-all) for creating and nurturing a communicative Latin classroom.
