Since the founding of The Graduate Center in 1961, over 400 candidates have completed their PhDs in History. We invite you to browse their dissertations via the Mina Ress library site:

Recent Alumni Accomplishments



The Graduate Center's Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness makes data available on alumni through Tableau. For History, data shows:

  • In recent years (since 2014-15), 5-17 doctoral degrees have been awarded annually. 
  • The current (as of Fall 2020) median time-to-degree is 6.7 years (by graduation year) and 6.0 years (by entering cohort).
  • Graduates (2003-2016) work in following job sectors: education (76%) and private (6%).
