Receipt of Gifts
The Joint Commission of Public Ethics (JCOPE) governs the New York State Public Employees Ethics Reform Act. Its establishment empowers it to receive complaints alleging violations of the Civil Service Law Section 107 which prohibits promises of influence, bans recommendations based on political affiliations and prohibits political assessments. Specifically, Receipt of Gifts is strictly prohibited (beyond anything of nominal value such as a pencil or a cup of coffee). Acceptance of any gift can result in a penalty of up to $40,000 plus the value of the gift. This rule applies to all CUNY employees. For further information, and various exceptions, please see the attached presentation. Please contact the Office of Human Resources at (212) 817-7700 or hr@gc.cuny.edu if you have questions.
