Software Platform Services Standards

This document codifies the service level expectations that the user community should have of various Graduate Center IT-maintained software platforms.

  • “Core software platforms” are characterized by adherence to all of the following:
    • Deep experience and expertise by on-site GC IT staff
    • Underlying infrastructure that is robust and significantly fault-tolerant; highest priority for system restore
    • Patches and upgrades applied in a regular, systematic, and time-sensitive manner
    • Contracted tech support in place (when available)
    • Highest priority for problem resolution; problems are pursued vigorously to conclusion
       
  • Platforms that do not conform fully and uniformly to each and every standard of a “core platform” are identified as “secondary software platforms”; “secondary software platforms” are characterized by meeting or exceeding the following:
    • Moderate experience and/or expertise by on-site GC IT staff
    • Underlying infrastructure that is sufficient and reasonably fault-tolerant; medium priority for system restore
    • Patches and upgrades applied in a timely manner but less frequently
    • Contracted tech support (when available) pursued as funds permit
    • Secondary priority for problem resolution; problems are pursued to conclusion
       
  • Platforms that do not conform fully and uniformly to each and every standard of a “secondary software platform” are identified as “peripheral software platforms”; “peripheral software platforms” are characterized by meeting or exceeding the following:
    • Minimal or no experience or expertise by on-site GC IT staff
    • Underlying infrastructure that minimally meets system specifications and is not necessarily fault tolerant; lowest priority for system restore
    • Patches and upgrades applied as time permits
    • Contracted tech support (when available) is not expected
    • Lowest priority for problem resolution; problems are pursued as time permits but may not ever be resolved
