Students in the music program at the CUNY Graduate Center choose to focus their studies in one of five concentrations, leading to either the Ph.D. or D.M.A. degree.

All students are expected to meet the general requirements and learning goals of the program, in addition to the specific requirements, goals, and assessments in their chosen concentration.

En-Route Master's Degree

A doctoral student is eligible for an en-route M.A. in Music degree after having completed 45 credits, the First Examination, and one language examination (two if concentrating in Ethnomusicology) along with the specific courses required for each area of study.
