From full-time fellowships to summer research grants, there is a wide variety of funding opportunities for Graduate Center scholars – and many of them have application deadlines coming up soon. Browse funding opportunities for students here and check out some fantastic options below. 

Study food humanities at the botanical garden 

The New York Botanical Garden–Humanities Institute is offering two $50,000, full-time Andrew W. Mellon Research Fellowships in the Food Humanities to pre- and postdoctoral students. Independent research should have a special focus on the multicultural communities in and around the Bronx, such as histories of food and urban agriculture, food justice and food security, Indigenous food traditions, and the history of community gardens and urban farms. Application deadline: Feb. 1.

Connect your artistic side with scientific research

The Art Science Connect initiative offers research fellowships of $5,000 to Graduate Center Ph.D. students from any program conducting research whose main question is driven by an exploration of topics that intersect art and science. Application deadline: Feb. 16.

Answer questions of public priorities 

The Early Research Initiative and the PublicsLab have summer research fellowships of $4,000 for Graduate Center Ph.D. students from any program conducting research whose main question is driven by public needs and priorities. Award winners will produce original research such as a dissertation proposal or chapter and write a blog post for the PublicsLab website. Application deadline: Feb. 15. 

Use data to study criminal justice 

The Vera Institute of Justice is offering $4,000 summer fellowships to Graduate Center Ph.D. students from any program with primary research interests in criminal or immigration justice. Application deadline: Feb. 1. 

Attend a two-week summer institute on comparative Latino humanities 

Pre-candidacy doctoral students can apply for an in-person Summer Institute on Latino Humanities Studies Methodologies and Theories at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a two-week intensive training on comparative Latino humanities studies research methodologies and theoretical frameworks. Application deadline: Jan. 28.

Cover your research expenses

The Doctoral Student Research Grant (DSRG) program offers Graduate Center doctoral students in years 2 through 6 awards of up to $1,500, which can be spent on expenses such as conference and research travel, compensation for human subjects, and more. Application deadline: Jan. 31. 

Advance knowledge about the NYC area

The Early Research Initiative, in collaboration with the GC Digital Initiatives, is offering $4,000 fellowships to Graduate Center Ph.D. students from any program conducting research on New York City and its environs. Application deadline: Feb. 14.

Pay for pre-dissertation scientific research

The Provost’s Office offers $4,000 summer fellowships for doctoral students in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Speech-Language Hearing Sciences. Application deadline: Feb. 9. 

Complete your dissertation

A wide variety of dissertation fellowships, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, are available through the Graduate Center Dissertation Fellowship Competition. Application deadline: Jan. 14.

And for faculty and HEOs…

Funding is also available for faculty and staff! The PSC-CUNY Research Award offers up to $12,000 to fund research projects. Application deadline: Dec. 15.
