ARC Introduces Distinguished Fellowship Program

The Advanced Research Collaborative (ARC) announces the inauguration of its Distinguished Fellowship Program at the Graduate Center, beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year. Profiles of the fellows can be found on the ARC website.

Selected from more than one hundred applicants, the first group of fellows includes seven Distinguished CUNY Fellows from La Guardia Community College and Hunter, Queens, City, and Brooklyn Colleges. They are joined by eight Distinguished Visiting Fellows from universities here and abroad: the New School, Wisconsin, Syracuse, and Georgetown as well as from universities in the Netherlands, Israel, and Brazil. The fellows, who are from a range of disciplines, including anthropology, sociology, geography, education, economics, and history, will undertake interdisciplinary research in three broad areas-immigration, inequality, and religion. Leaders in their respective fields, the Distinguished Fellows have captured the opportunity to collaborate with peers, including eminent GC faculty, in a rich academic environment.

In addition, thirty doctoral students drawn from thirteen of the GC's doctoral programs have been awarded ARC Student Fellowships and will work together with faculty in the ARC student research praxis seminar to develop their research interests. The praxis seminar is a unique opportunity for doctoral students to acquire research techniques from experts at an early stage of their own paths of inquiry.

Fellows will be in residence for either one or two semesters working on their research, and they will be presenting papers at a weekly seminar. Sanjay Reddy, associate professor of economics and co-academic director of the India-China Institute at the New School, will present in September on "Justice and Inequality on the World Scale."
