Community Message 3-13-08: Student Health Insurance

Dear Friends,

As you know, one of our top legislative priorities this year is acquiring health insurance for doctoral students who serve as graduate or teaching assistants at CUNY.  More particularly, we’re seeking to achieve parity with SUNY in this regard.  The current fiscal climate complicates that enterprise, but we are pressing forward on multiple fronts.

I’m pleased to say that Chancellor Goldstein has been extremely supportive of our efforts, and has co-signed with me a letter to Kenneth LaValle and Deborah Glick, the chairs of the New York State Senate and Assembly committees on Higher Education.  I attach that letter for your reference.  I also ask your help in writing to Senator LaValle lavalle@senate.state.ny.us and Assemblymember Glick glickd@assembly.state.ny.us in support of this initiative.
