Fall 2015 Forum on Transcultural Education
Bringing together CUNY language educators and administrators to consider the challenges and opportunities that transcultural education poses, ILETC will host a Forum on Transcultural Education at the CUNY Graduate Center this Fall, 2015.
One of the most significant changes in language education over the past few decades has been the recognition of transcultural and translingual competence as key components.
This change has transformed the nature of the field to a great extent, making the objectives and practices no longer defined only in terms of achievement of linguistic communicative competence and knowledge of target cultural elements, but advocating for an intercultural orientation to language programs in order to enable learners to reflect on the world and themselves through the lens of another language and culture and learn how to effectively coexist and interact with others in a multicultural society.
With the aim of bringing together CUNY language educators and administrators to consider the challenges and opportunities that transcultural education poses, ILETC will host a Forum on Transcultural Education at the CUNY Graduate Center this Fall, 2015.
