Michelle Johnson, doctoral student in the Ph.D. Program in Linguistics and Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Certificate Program, unveiled her independent study project, 'Languages Above the Subways.' To create this interactive and content-rich project, Johnson embraced the Graduate Center's focus on digital initiatives by learning web design skills. The results are an engaging infographic detailing which languages are spoken in the areas above the New York City subway system.

Johnson collected her data from the 2010 census. Visitors to the site can view the information by subway line or by language.
