Graduate Center Library Offers Only Remote Services Until Further Notice

March 15, 2020

In light of COVID-19, the library will offer only remote reference services to students and faculty members, including 24/7 chat as well as assistance by email and phone.

Dear Graduate Center Community,

I write to advise you that over the weekend, library administration was notified of a potential COVID-19 case among the staff. The individual, who is awaiting test results, was last at the library on March 12 and was asymptomatic.

Out of an abundance of caution, The Graduate Center library was closed as of 4:00 p.m. today, so that we can undertake a deep cleaning of the facility.

We will reopen the library once the cleaning has been completed.

The library will continue to offer remote reference services to our students and faculty members.

Around-the-clock chat reference is available from the library website. (Select “24/7 Chat” in the “Services” menu.) Email reference is available by using this form, by writing to, or by emailing a subject librarian.

As a reminder, if you feel sick, please contact a health care provider. If you don’t have a health care provider, please call 311. Hospital staff cannot ask you about your immigration status or deny you care based on your ability to pay.

We care deeply about the health and well-being of everyone in our community and remain committed to creating a safe environment for all who study and work at The Graduate Center.

We invite you to continue to visit our coronavirus website ( for the latest information and updates on this ongoing public health crisis.
