Wayne Koestenbaum, a distinguished English professor at The Graduate Center, CUNY, has published several books based on ideas he has used in the classroom. One of them was called Humiliation. "Thinking across disciplines and making counterintuitive leaps keep the mind alive," Koestenbaum says. "If a name for a class doesn't make me giggle, it's not good enough." He must be giggling all the time these days.
