Margaret Chin on Garment Workers

Margaret Chin, associate professor of sociology, was featured in a recent episode of the JustPublics@365 podcast series. Born in New York City, Chin is the daughter of a former garment worker and a restaurant waiter.

In the podcast, Chin speaks about her research, which focuses on new immigrants, working poor families, race and ethnicity, and Asian Americans. She discusses her current project on the 1.5- and second-generation Asian Americans who lost or changed jobs during the recent recession, as well as her findings about how workers perceived garment work.
