Mimi Abramovitz Named NASW Social Work Pioneer

Professor Mimi Abramovitz (GC/Hunter, Social Welfare) has been inducted to the NASW Social Work Pioneer program, a National Association of Social Workers initiative to honor those whose "dedication, commitment, and determination have improved social and human conditions."

The NASW cited Abramovitz's "exceptional contribution to the social work profession and its ability to meet the needs of all people."

Abramovitz, whose research interests include the history of the U.S. welfare system, the impact of neoliberalism on welfare policies, and low-income women's activism, is also the Bertha Capen Reynolds Professor of Social Work at Hunter College's Silberman School of School Work and the chair of its Social Policy Curriculum Area.

She will be recognized in October at NASW's 60th anniversary celebration in Washington, D.C.
