The Wall Street Journal... report quoted John Mollenkopf, director of the Center for Urban Research at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, saying that native-born whites with native-born white parents used to be a core voting bloc that could get a mayor elected, but now that group is less than one-fifth of New York's population. Therefore, the Journal quoted Mollenkopf, "Now we're at a point where you can't win a general election on the basis of native whites against everybody else, because native whites aren't enough."
