Science Alumni Spotlight: Ruth Reisman

Ruth Reisman graduated from the CUNY Graduate Center with her Doctor of Audiology degree in 2011. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College in Speech, Hearing, and Communication Sciences and is currently pursuing her MBA in Health Care Management at Baruch and Hofstra Universities.

Dr. Reisman heads the audiology department at Northwell Health's Western Region under the New York Head and Neck Institute Organization, a department she was instrumental in developing from the ground up. She leads a team of audiologists and audiology residents who were all students of the CUNY Graduate program and is also an adjunct professor at the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Reisman has been recognized as the first audiologist to successfully fit a Maxum (TM) hearing device in the tristate area and the first in the country to successfully fit a Cochlear BAHA (TM) device with the new Attract (TM) implant system. Her experience in the evaluation and rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders is wide-ranged. Dr. Reisman's research and methods in the assessment and treatment of hearing disorders in some of the most challenging cases has been awarded and recognized within the field of audiology. She is actively conducting research in the area of hearing implants as well as hearing loss in the Osteogenesis Imperfecta population in collaboration with Hospital for Special Surgery.

Through the use of the latest methods and technology in hearing rehabilitation available today, Dr. Reisman is able to significantly improve communication skills and the quality of life in the hearing impaired population. She is dedicated to increasing awareness on the preservation and improvement of hearing and balance health for all populations. Her future goals are to work to increase advocacy for the field of audiology and strengthen the field in a way that will allow audiologists to service more people in need of their services.

In her personal life she enjoys spending time with her family, her three boys, and her closest friends. Ruth will find any opportunity to hit the gym, bike ride, or travel.
