Setha Low Receives Inaugural Anthropology Scholar Award

Professor Setha M. Low (Anthropology/Environmental Psychology), whose novel research focuses on the anthropology of space and place, has been awarded the inaugural Senior Scholar Award from the Society of Urban, National and Transnational/Global Anthropology (SUNTA).

The award recognizes outstanding academics for their scholarly publications; teaching; mentoring; service to urban, national and transnational anthropology; and contributions to public debates.
 
Also a professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Women's and Gender Studies, Low is the director and one of the founders of the GC's Public Space Research Group. Its focus is the relationship of public space to people and communities within the context of legal, political, and economic forces.

Her other awards include a Getty Fellowship, a NEH fellowship, a Fulbright Senior Fellowship, and a Guggenheim for her ethnographic research on public space in Latin America and the United States.
 
Low is widely published and lectures internationally. In December, she will be a presenter at the First International Conference on Women and Urban Life (WUL) in Tehran.
