President's Office Email Header - Fall 2022

Dear Graduate Center colleagues,

It is my pleasure to welcome our new legal counsel and labor designee, Suzanne Piper. Suzanne joins the Graduate Center from Hunter College, where she served as general counsel, and brings a wealth of experience to her role at the Graduate Center.

As our legal counsel and labor designee, Suzanne will provide legal advice on matters related to labor and employment, student affairs, contracts, and school governance. She will also advise leadership on issues related to Title IX, among other related responsibilities.

Suzanne is familiar with CUNY, having been Hunter’s legal counsel for just over four years. Before that, she held general counsel roles in both the private and not-for-profit sectors. She was the chief judge and commissioner in the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) from 2008 to 2014. Her prior experience includes positions at Davis Polk & Wardwell, Merrill Lynch, and Trinity Wall Street.

Suzanne has a J.D. from Columbia Law School and an M.A. and a B.A. from Yale.

Lynette Phillips, our long-serving legal counsel and labor designee, retired earlier this year, and I thank her for her dedication to the Graduate Center and her hard work.

Sincerely,

Signature of Joshua C. Brumberg
