William Bialek Receives the Swartz Prize for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience

William Bialek, visiting presidential professor of physics and founder and director of the Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences (ITS @ the Graduate Center), has been awarded the Swartz Prize for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience from the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). SfN chose Bialek for his leadership in the field of theoretical and computational neuroscience and his contributions to the understanding of neural computation, as well as his commitment to training the next generation of scientists.

Bialek, who is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, has produced much influential research addressing theoretical problems at the interface of physics and biology, and the study of neural coding and computation in the brain.

SfN presented Bialek with the award during Neuroscience 2013, SfN's annual meeting, in November 2013.
