Burcu Ozdemir is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Anthropology at the Graduate Center, CUNY. Her research is based in Northern Kurdistan (Turkish Kurdistan) and examines cultivation of the Tigris river by looking at how water’s multiple meanings, ontological states and materiality emerge at the intersection of colonization, armed conflict, large-scale developmentalist interventions in the region and life-making projects of local populations. She currently teaches anthropology at Hunter College and Lehman College (CUNY).
