Claire Wladis is a Professor of Mathematics at the Borough of Manhattan Community College and of urban education at the Graduate Center. Her research focuses on higher education and mathematics education, particularly on issues of access and retention for “nontraditional” students or students who have traditionally been underrepresented or underserved in college and in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. This includes research on online learning, student time poverty, and conceptual understanding in algebra.
