Hester Eisenstein’s teaching and research focus on gender and globalization, women and work, and the sociology of gender. Her books include Feminism Seduced: How Global Elites Use Women’s Labor and Ideas to Exploit the World (2009), Inside Agitators: Australian Femocrats and the State (1996), Gender Shock: Practicing Feminism on Two Continents (1991), and Contemporary Feminist Thought (1983). Eisenstein has taught at Yale, Barnard, and SUNY Buffalo, and served as a femocrat in the state government of New South Wales, Australia. From the Fall Semester of 2015 she is serving as the Acting Director of the Masters Program in Women's and Gender Studies and of the Center for Gender and Society, and the Interim Coordinator of the Women's Studies Certificate Program at the CUNY Graduate Center.
