Irina Sekerina grew up in Moscow, Russia, and graduated with B.A. in Linguistics from the Moscow State University. After defending her dissertation, she worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Institute for Research in Cognitive Science (University of Pennsylvania) and the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science. In 2002, she started at the Department of Psychology at the College of Staten Island and now she is also affiliated with the Ph.D. Programs in Linguistics and Psychology at The Graduate Center.
Irina Sekerina’s research and teaching embraces a strong international perspective. She has active collaborations with the Center for Language and Brain at the Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia), the Arctic University of Norway at Tromsø, and Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft (ZAS) (Berlin, Germany). Irina Sekerina has taught in multiple international winter and summer schools in St.-Petersburg (Russia), Potsdam (Germany), Groningen (The Netherlands), Singapore, and Shanghai (China).
