Joao M. Da Silva holds an M.A. in Liberal Studies (CUNY GC) with a focus on Migration and Global Cities and a B.A. in Sociology (Universidad ARCIS, Santiago, Chile). Before returning to the Grad Center as a PhD student, he worked with campaign-oriented non-profit organizations. His professional experience includes advocacy for the educational rights children and youth in New York, championing changes to U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America, and monitoring and exposing human rights abuses committed by Latin American military officials who were recipients of U.S. military training.
