Kersha Smith

Kersha Smith is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Queensborough Community College.  She earned her Ph.D. in social-personality psychology from The Graduate Center at The City University of New York (CUNY).  Her primary research investigates curricula and pedagogies responsible for the construction of critical knowledge.  She is also an ethno-editor who works at bringing together diverse voices around race and ethnicity. Kersha is the co-editor of a collection of narrative essays titled Uncommon Bonds: Women Reflect on Race and Friendship.  She is also the author of the forthcoming Black Heirlooms: The Unbroken Narratives of African American Families.  Kersha has been published in various journals such as Pedagogy, Culture & Society and The Journal of Social Issues. She is a recipient of the Spencer Foundation’s Discipline-Based Studies in Education Fellowship.  She was granted the Calvin W. Ruck award, which recognizes scholars committed to social justice, CUNY’s Community College Collaborate Grant, and The Larry Murphy Award by the Adult Higher Education Alliance for her work on transformative learning in non-traditional student populations.
