Matthew Schoengood joined the Graduate Center in 1980. He has previously served as Deputy Registrar, Director of Admissions, Executive Director for Student Services/Director of Financial Aid and as Vice President for Student Affairs since 2001. As Vice President for Student Affairs, he oversees and provides leadership and strategic direction to multiple departments within the Student Affairs Division: Admissions, Registrar, International Students, Child Development and Learning Center, Wellness Center- Student Counseling Services, Career Planning and Professional Development, Writing Center, Teaching and Learning Center, Graduate Student/Faculty Housing, as well as student disability services. As Chief Student Affairs Officer he oversees all matters related to student affairs/services, faculty and student advisement on all academic policies and procedures, and the quality of student life. He has served on numerous Graduate Center and CUNY wide committees throughout his career, established the CUNY Clinical Psychology Fellows Program, and also served on the Mamaroneck Free Union School District Board.
A native New Yorker, he received his B.A. in Theatre, Speech and Secondary Education from Ohio Wesleyan University and an M.P.A. in Labor Relations and Personnel Management from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service.
