Miranda earned her BA in International Studies with concentration on the Middle East from the University of Chicago, and her MA in Arab Studies from Georgetown University. She has lived, studied, or done research in Syria, Lebanon, Israel/Palestine, and Egypt. After writing her MA thesis on spatial instantiations of civil war commemoration in Lebanon, she chose to pursue a doctorate in Geography to further develop the research interests that emerged from that project. She hopes to do her doctoral research on postwar commemoration and reconstruction in Lebanon and, should conditions allow, Syria, while exploring her increasing interest in the effects of intervention in the Middle East on politics and culture in the US. She has worked in a variety of contexts in the nonprofit world and written professionally on film, television, and literature. She speaks Spanish and Arabic.
