The Clinical Psychology Training Program at Queens College is one of three Clinical Psychology doctoral programs and one of 14 programs of study in Psychology offered through the Psychology Department of the Graduate Center of The City University of New York. The PhD Program in Clinical Psychology at Queens College stresses students’ professional and personal development throughout the course of training, with the goal of providing trainees with a broad and general educational experience that prepares graduates for careers as scientist-practitioners in Clinical Psychology that is enhanced with additional expertise in the role of neural dysfunction in behavioral functioning and psychopathology.  Within the context of our scientist-practitioner training model, both research and evidence-based practice are highly emphasized.  We fully endorse and explicitly act on the belief that science informs practice, and practice informs science.  The multidisciplinary nature of our highly qualified research/teaching faculty, with expertise in applied clinical science, social science and/or basic and behavioral neuroscience, combined with our on-campus clinic and a network of licensed psychologists in external applied training sites, is uniquely suited to implement our training mission.

The core philosophy of “The Program” is based on three broad goals, which focus on:

  1. The scientific and theoretical foundations of clinical psychology;

  2. Practical applications of clinical psychology that are informed by scientific principles;

  3. The scientific and theoretical foundations of neuroscience in relation to psychopathology and neural dysfunction;
